"Let the carnival begin: Every pleasure, every sin." Chapter I: Libera me. |
The chosen one - a novel standing out from the crowd? This satirical work breaks with the political correctness that dominates Norwegian culture and general public. It is a tour of decadence degenerating into evil and self-destruction. The main character is a bisexual West End boy, Louis Antoine (born Ludwig Anton) Reichborn. His style and standards are fully living up to the family name. Talented and seductive, perfect on the outside and depraved on the inside ... The cocaine sniffing narcissist stands in the blossom of his youth in the early 1990s, when serial killers like Jeffrey Dahmer and “the Laser Man” appeared in the medias. After several years of excessive partying and a psychiatrical breakdown young Reichborn is ready for the student life and its many liberties and temptations. In “The chosen one” we follow the extracurricular aspects of his studies. Costumes, film, music, nightlife and indulgence are all central in this novel with its many cultural references. The chosen one also describes eroticism in many different categories and -isms, including sexually motivated killings. The hunt for complete emotional coldness and perfect beauty is essential in young Reichborn´s life. Louis feels that he has to live up to his own high ideals and uses intoxication and violence as paths into what he imagines is a superhuman condition ... “Singularis, in the first person is the only natural angle to describe a person of this caliber,” says Damien de Villiers between pulls of champagne.
